Product Information

This glow wire tester is suitable for testing electrical equipment, automotive on-board electrical components, EV conductive charging connection devices (charging guns, charging sockets, charging modules, internal insulating plastic parts of on-board chargers), industrial plugs and sockets, solid insulating materials and various solid combustible polymer materials. It adopts simulation technology to assess fire risks induced by short-period thermal stress from heat sources like glowing hot components and overload resistors, conducting fire hazard tests and flame ignition tests without external flame sources for electrical & electronic products, household appliances and corresponding materials to test their glow wire ignition temperature, flammability and glow wire flammability index.

Test Principle

The glow wire tester heats an electric heating wire of specified material (Ni77/Cr20 alloy) and shape to the test temperature range (550℃ ~ 960℃) via high current for 1 minute.

It then vertically presses the wire against the test sample for 30 seconds under a standard force of 0.95N.

By observing whether the sample and underlying padding ignite, and recording sustained burning duration, the tester assesses:

1. Fire hazard of finished electrical and electronic devices;

2. Ignition performance, glow wire ignition temperature (GWIT), flammability and glow wire flammability index (GWFI) of solid insulating materials and other solid combustible substances.

Structure & Features

An electromagnetic valve actuator precisely controls the penetration depth of the glow wire into the sample.

The tester automatically retracts the glow wire once the specified burning duration is completed.
